Supporting Lucy on 25th April at Her Court of Appeal Hearing

Thank you to the blog member who contacted me to ask if there is a plan to support Lucy on 25 April, the day of her leave to appeal hearing. Here are some thoughts.

Although it has been reported in the media (see https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-68378750) that Lucy’s leave to appeal hearing at the Court of Appeal in London has been “set” for 25 April, my understanding (derived from contact with the court itself) is that it has been “pencilled in” for that date. In other words, the date could well change.

That said, for the purposes of organising some sort of initiative to support Lucy on the day outside the Royal Courts of Justice (which houses the Court of Appeal) on The Strand, one might as well proceed on the basis that the date has indeed been “set” (and adjust plans accordingly if the date changes).

I am very time constrained at the moment, working on other initiatives to help Lucy, but am very supportive of the idea of supporting her on the day on The Strand and of anyone who steps up to organise something. As I’m sure are many of you. You may be interested in attending a gathering on 25th. Better still, you may be interested in helping to organise said gathering, whether informing those interested in attending of details, setting up WhatsApp group, designing and ordering placards (here’s one site where one can submit customised placard design(s), place order etc – https://www.universalbanners.co.uk/printed-protest-placard-signs), setting up a simple/dedicated website to publicise the gathering (using same imagery as for placards).

Please send an email to peter@chimpinvestor.com to let me know if you are interested in attending or, better still, organising things. If you are interested only in being an attendee, please confirm that you are happy for me to share your email address with anyone who steps up to be an organiser. If you are able to help organise, please confirm you are happy for me to share your email address with any others who offer to help organise. Hopefully there will be a few of you who offer to be an organiser and who could allocate responsibilities for various tasks among yourselves.

Also, I’m certain that my blog membership has been infiltrated by some in the anti-Lucy camp so I will do my best to weed them out and exclude them. If any of you have any thoughts on how we might do this most effectively, please say. Perhaps I might ask people to send me a photo/scan of their driving licence, on condition that I do not share it with any one? At the same time, I do not want to put off people who genuinely want to support Lucy but who want to do so anonymously, without sharing any details other than email address. It’s a tricky one.

In terms of legal matters relating to protests, according to https://www.gov.uk/protests-and-marches-letting-the-police-know, “If there’s no march organised as part of your protest, you do not have to tell the police.”

I have created a new post in The Forum dedicated to the gathering here – https://www.chimpinvestor.com/forum/members-comments/discussion-forum-in-relation-to-supporting-lucy-at-her-leave-to-appeal-hearing-on-25th-april (the Forum is for blog members only so not publicly visible as the blog area is). If you have any other thoughts about how this gathering might be organised, or indeed anything that relates to Lucy’s hearing, please post your comments there (or send to peter@chimpinvestor.com and I can post them). Get a discussion going. Build some momentum. I rather think that there needs to be a decent turn out, whether in terms of numbers or organisation, for the message conveyed to the media in attendance and beyond to be an impactful one.

Here’s to Lucy.
